Buying old websites for SEO
February 5th, 2009So, I saw the ‘Buying Websites for SEO’ session at SMX London last year, and it’s been on my mind ever since. Yesterday I started thinking that I great way to find old authoritative websites that are no longer is use would be to look for fads or toys that were popular in the 80’s/90’s, but which have since died a death.
The first one I thought of was Pogs! I loved these things, collected and played them to death when I was about 10. Lo and behold, www.pogs.com was registered in 1996, and is currently for sale! I offered $500 just to see what they’d say, and I was turned down and told (I quote):
“We encourage you to submit a substantially higher offer in order to open the door to negotiations for this domain.”
So, with that knock back, I decided to have another go – I found these – all along the theme of old toys that are no longer popular!
