Who made the Computer Tan campaign @

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Well, that’s what I was wondering – but with a little bit of internet poking (the wonderful Whois), I found that McCan Erickson (that fabulous ad agency) were the brains behind this hugely successful charity skin cancer awareness campaign.

The first ‘W’ on our USA lax tour, originally uploaded by Jebaloo.

This is the Scotland lax team warming down after the opening game of
our lax tour in the states. We were playing Goucher college team nr
Baltimore. Tomorrow hopefully my foot (which is currently swelling up
nicely) will have recovered from the total battering it received
today! Fingers crossed!

Buying old websites for SEO

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

So, I saw the ‘Buying Websites for SEO’ session at SMX London last year, and it’s been on my mind ever since. Yesterday I started thinking that I great way to find old authoritative websites that are no longer is use would be to look for fads or toys that were popular in the 80’s/90’s, but which have since died a death.

The first one I thought of was Pogs! I loved these things, collected and played them to death when I was about 10. Lo and behold, was registered in 1996, and is currently for sale! I offered $500 just to see what they’d say, and I was turned down and told (I quote):

“We encourage you to submit a substantially higher offer in order to open the door to negotiations for this domain.”

So, with that knock back, I decided to have another go – I found these – all along the theme of old toys that are no longer popular!

Registered in 2002:

So, if you’ve got a bit of spare cash about I want to buy some old domains so you can get your hands on some of that hard earned authority – go ahead!

UPDATE: Some of them have been taken now!

Last snow in London

Last snow in London

All I can hear looking out of my window is the drip drip of melting snow. I think it’ll all be gone in 12 hours. What a beautiful day – all day long mums and dads were out with kids walking past my window throwing snowballs and carrying sleds on an unexpected holiday.

Lots of folk walking back from the shops with manageable (and some less manageable!) purchases. A bag of food for dinner – instead of the usual unnecessarily large Asda shop. Lots of chatter between strangers too. First thing I heard was an old chap telling a worried commuter that the tube tracks were under snow. She about turned and went back home!

Midnight Snow, take two.

Update – turns out the snow is still here (5th Feb) – but it’s definitely gonna be gone tomorrow! ;)

Snow in Putney!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

It’s true, and I haven’t seen it for years!

After a morning playing lacrosse in the snow out at Haberdasher’s Aske’s School, I came home to a chilly but not snowy London and dozed all afternoon by the fire.  It wasn’t till 6pm that I removed the cats from my lap, got up and opened the curtains in the sitting room and saw the product of a wintery afternoon!  At about midnight I had an urge to go out and take some photos (in my dressing gown).

No tripod, and very rushed due to cold!

Took me a while to get out of the door and brave the cold!
Hazlewell Road, snow at midnight.
